INSTALLATION

A self-extracting installer is provided which has the extension “.exe”.  This utility will automatically unzip the scripts, recompile them for your system if desired, and install them in the proper directory.

If you want to install the scripts manually, unzip the scripts from the zipped archive and copy them to the folder:

c:\documents and settings\username\application data\freedom scientific\JAWS\VersionNumber\settings\enu

where “username” is your login name.

If for some reason you need to recompile the scripts, open the Band-in-a-Box program & press insert+0 to bring the scripts into the JAWS script manager, then hit ctrl+s to recompile. This step should not be required.

GETTING STARTED

Once in the Band-in-a-Box program hit insert+h to bring up a list of useful JAWS keyboard commands.  Hitting insert+F1 twice quickly will bring up this README file.  Also, the JAWS keyboard help mode, which can be accessed by hitting Insert+1, can be useful in identifying JAWS hotkeys along with more complete descriptions.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Question 1.  I hear beat numbers, but the chords don't read.

The first step is that you need to change your chord font to bold.  Do this by:

1)      Hit ctrl+e to bring up the preferences dialog box.

2)      Go to the "display" button & hit enter or spacebar.

3)      Tab to the custom button & press it.

4)      Make the font Times New Roman or something similar, then tab to the style box & make it bold.

If the chords still will not read after doing this, do the following:

1)      Open a new chord sheet file in Band-in-a-Box & press the home key.

2)      With the JAWS cursor, find row 1, & then the chord C beside it.

3)      With the JAWS cursor on the C, press ctrl+insert+h to bring up the assign highlight colors dialog, & press enter for as many times as it takes to close it out.

Question 2.  I used to hear the chords as Band-in-a-Box played, but now I don’t.

This can often be rectified by hitting Control+W until JAWS reports that you are in the Chord Window.

Question 3.  My computer becomes sluggish in the Synth Settings Dialog box

Some problems have been observed using JAWS when entering the Synth Settings Dialog box.  To get to this dialog, go to the Opt / Midi a/ Audio Driver Setup menu item and tab to the DXi Synth Settings button.  The problem appears to occur when certain soft synths are displayed in this dialog.  The only resolution for now is to:

1)      Try and identify the problem soft synth and remove it.  This synth may have been loaded by another audio program such as Sonar and cannot be removed directly from Band-in-a-Box.

2)      Seek sighted assistance to navigate this dialog and select your desired soft synth and effects.

Currently this problem seems to be JAWS related and will hopefully be addressed in a future release of JAWS.
